Welcome to Seeff Graaff-Reinet

Graaff-Reinet is the oldest town in the Eastern Cape and the fourth oldest in South Africa. It lies enclosed by a bend in the Sundays River, overshadowed by the rocky Sneeuberg Mountain within the Camdeboo National Park.
With over 200 buildings claimed as National Monuments and an entire street restored, including its slave cottages, Graaff-Reinet has retained much of the character of a typical 19th century town and is a popular tourist attraction.

Graaff-Reinet is just two and a half hours from Port Elizabeth by road and also offers an all-weather air field. With its famous "Valley of Desolation", the town is well positioned as the gateway to the Karoo for tourism to Addo, Baviaanskloof and the Garden Route.

It was founded in 1786 by the governor, Cornelius Jacob van de Graaff and named after his wife, Cornelia Reinet. Her namesake, Reinet House, was originally built as a parsonage and is now a museum with one of the largest living grape vines in the world in its garden which still bears fruit today.

Graaff-Reinet was described by missionary, David Livingstone as "the prettiest town in all Africa". It offers a healthy climate without malaria or tropical diseases and is well-known for its friendly village atmosphere. There are excellent doctors, schools and amenities, making it the ideal place for young families as well as retirement.

There is a good 9-hole golf course, soon to be upgraded to 18 holes, situated close to the town. Proposals are to be considered for a new golf estate.

Exceptional investment opportunities now exist in property in Graaff-Reinet. The town is surrounded by the new Camdeboo National Park and in its development, the town is set to become a lifestyle and tourism hub for the entire area. Historically, land near a developing National Park will rise substantially in value.

Older properties also carry a "historic" value and these have become increasingly sought-after. The most popular architectural styles in the town are modelled on national monuments. The Karoo cottage, the Cape Dutch gabled house and the Victorian or Georgian styles offer character and an ambience for which Graaff-Reinet is famous.

The town offers a broad range of property to suit every buyer and budget. Seeff Graaff-Reinet offers unique local area insight and our team of real estate agents can assist with all your property needs, from residential to agricultural and commercial sales, rentals and investments.
