Explore Natural Splendors of Eastern Cape's Cape St Francis
The village of Cape St. Francis (Afrikaans: Kaap St. Francis) is located on a headland in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. It is well-known for its pristine beaches and as a surfing destination.
The first thing that comes to mind for many of us when we hear the name St. Francis is the perfect wave from the 1966 surf classic The Endless Summer. Today, Bruce's Beauties is only one of the well-known surfing locations in St. Francis Bay, as Seals is the place for Cape St. Francis surfers. 20 kilometers to the west is the tranquil fishing village of Oyster Bay, while Humansdorp, the agricultural capital of the region, is visible to the north.
In addition to a penguin rescue and rehabilitation center, the village is home to the Seal Point Lighthouse. Cape St. Francis is currently regarded as one of the best surfing spots. Due to its geographical location, it is susceptible to year-round swelling caused by large low-pressure systems that form between Antarctica and the southernmost tip of Africa.
Today, St. Francis is renowned for much more than just surfing; it boasts a picturesque canal system surrounded by homes with black roofs and white walls. In the direction of Santareme and Port St. Francis, the uniformity is repeated, with Mediterranean and Tuscan residences filling the dune fields and fynbos.
