Tsakane was established in 1957. Steadily growing into a thriving suburb. Today we see Tsakane as one of the largest suburbs in Brakpan. Although the suburb is substantial in size the community remains a close-knit and friendly community, with a very diverse culture, making this suburb a very unique and interesting area to live.

Featuring the public hospital called Pholosong which serves a population of approximately 900,000 people from Tsakane, KwaThema, and Duduza. There is also one public clinic and smaller surgeries and clinics situated around Tsakane.

Economic development in Tsakane is mainly centered in and around the area of the mall which also accommodates the police station, the Magistrates court, the stadium, and the Municipal offices. Tsakane also boasts 4 Shoprite stores. The malls and shopping complexes are buzzing with activity.

Tsakane caters to everyone's needs when it comes to property. Properties range from Upmarket modern houses to middle and normal income class housing. In Tsakane the residential range from middle class houses (Tsakane Ext 1,5,8 & 11) normal houses (Tsakane central) to RDP houses (Mandela village, Ext 9,12,13,15 & 19). Tsakane also features upmarket houses with modern finishings throughout the suburb of Tsakane.

There is a wide variety of businesses in and around the center of Tsakane. Tsakane also boasts ample fast-food restaurants, clubs such as Dinangwe, Siyas Lounge, and Tight Corner as well as other venues that people go to on special occasions. Tsakane has a vibrant and active nightlife with bars such as Chillas, Dinangwe, and Welcome's place. The community of Tsakane supports their local communities' food businesses which sell bunny chow or "kota".

Tsakane Stadium has hosted some matches between the reserve teams of big cubs in a tournament called the Diski Challenge. In addition to soccer games, the stadium is also often used for local activities such as government functions, school sports days, music festivals, and religious gatherings.

There are several Primary and Secondary Schools in Tsakane. Primary schools in Tsakane mostly start from Grade 1-7 whereas the secondary schools start from Grade 8 to 12 except for African School for Excellence which is the only secondary school that starts from grade 7 as well as being the only Cambridge School in that area.

Tsakane is such a unique suburb and boasts its very own radio station called EK FM 103.6, a local newspaper: The African Reporter with an estimated circulation of 22,000 newspapers and local magazines.
