A brief history of the area 

Camps Bay is named in honour of Frederick Ernst Von Kamptz, who was the second husband of Anna Koekemoer. Having been married to the original owner of the land, Johan Wernich, Koememoer inherited the land on which Camp Bay stands after Wernich's untimely death in 1778. By marrying Koekemoer, Von Kamptz became the new official owner.

Distance from key points

Camps Bay is well loved for its blend of coastal paradise and easy access to everywhere. A drive to Cape Town International Airport from Camps Bay will take less than half an hour in average traffic, covering a distance of about 25 km. A trip to Cape Town's City Centre will take just over ten minutes from Camps Bay.

Climate 

Like the rest of the Western Cape, Camps Bay enjoys warm, dry summers and has cooler winters, during which the area receives most of its rainfall. The hottest months of the year are typically January and February, when temperatures often climb into the high 20s or low 30s, dropping to the mid-teens at night. The coldest months of the year are June and July, when maximum temperatures are generally in the high teens or low 20s.

Schools in the area 

Camps Bay Primary School and Camps Bay High School meet the needs of children in the area in all grades. There is also a well-respected Jewish school called Phyllis Jowell Jewish Day School in Camps Bay.
