There are a number of good schools in Cape Town City Centre, beginning with Prestwich Street Primary School, which is close to the city centre. Since its establishment in 1910, the school has served as a home for children from all over the Western Cape, encouraging academic achievement and embracing cultural diversity. Laerskool Jan Van Riebeeck and St. Mary's Primary are two more primary schools in the vicinity. There are also a number of high schools, including Good Hope Seminary High School, Hoërskool Jan van Riebeeck and Harold Cressy High School.
Healthcare in the area
Cape Town City Centre offers a wide range of medical services, with a number of hospitals and pharmacies nearby. The highly renowned Booth Memorial Hospital first opened its doors in 1917. Previously a maternity hospital that delivered over 27,000 newborns, it now operates as a sub-acute hospital. There are three more hospitals nearby: Mediclinic Cape Town, New Somerset Hospital, and Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital. Cape Town Station Pharmacy, which is strategically located near the station, the Local Choice Pharmacy Litekem, and Olsens Pharmacy are among the pharmacies in the neighbourhood.
Shopping centres
If you need to do some shopping, you may find it convenient to check in at Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village,a shopping area with specialised boutiques and sit-down restaurants with outdoor seating, as well as over a hundred stores. 1. Iziko Social History Centre was turned into a world-class centre holding reserve social history artefacts and records after a three-year renovation and extension project in 2010. The museum mostly houses reserve social history artefacts and archives, as well as indigenous African beading, Egyptian artefacts and many other collections.
2. The Castle of Good Hope is a historic landmark built between 1666 and 1679. It is the oldest surviving monument in South Africa and has served as a centre of civic, political, and military use since around 1679.
3. The Iziko South African Museum was established in 1825 and is located in the historic Company's Gardens. The museum contains a large collection of species and attracts thousands of visitors each year.
4. The Iziko Slave Lodge is a historic structure established in 1679. This museum features displays on South African enslavement, pottery, silverware, and ancient Egypt. Other exhibitions include The Struggle Against Separate Schooling in America, African Slaves in Brazil, and a collection illustrating the role of women in the Apartheid struggle.
5. District Six Museum has illustrations of apartheid's forcible removal of 60,000 inhabitants and demolition of dwellings in the 1970s. The museum promotes public education, cooperative programmes, and the use of the museum as a gathering space.
