Kenilworth is a sought-after area of Cape Town, nestled between the suburbs of Claremont and Wynberg. Being just a 10-minute drive from the well-loved Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, it's an area with loads of natural beauty and a friendly ambience. The area is home to various office parks as well as residences, making work just a stone's throw from home for many Kenilworth residents.
A brief history of the area
Kenilworth is well known for its racecourse but less known is the fact that within the racecourse's borders lies the Kenilworth Racecourse Conservation Area, which was established in 1985. Spanning 52 hectares, this nature reserve is home to at least 34 threatened plant species. As a whole, the racecourse is a historical landmark of Cape Town, having been officially founded in the 1800s. Another interesting historical anecdote is that during the Anglo-Boer war, the racecourse was temporarily used to house prisoners of war.
