Zwartkop Golf Estate at a glance

In 1841, Daniel Jacobus Elardus Erasmus who moved from the malaria infested Eastern Transvaal (Mpumalanga) settled in the area close to a koppie that he called Zwartkop (after a local bird), and built his farmhouse on the land that today is the Zwartkop Country Club. The crystalline Hennops River ran through the Property and it had an abundance of game. He and his wife are both buried 500m from the clubhouse of the Zwartkop Country Club, which is the property on which the Zwartkop Golf Estate has been built. Frank Edward Palmer Ball later owned the land and commissioned Bob Grimsdell to design a golf course. The Golf Course was officially opened in 1933 and the old farmhouse was used as the original clubhouse.

The Estate also witnessed its fair share of skirmishes during the Boer war from 1899 to 1902. Lord Roberts and his 40,000 strong occupational forces camped on the land prior to the siege of Pretoria on 5 June 1900.

Today the Zwartkop Country Club falls under the suburb of Clubview. Facilities include the 18 hole golf course, hair salon, wine club, library, pro shop, Day Spa, a gym sporting new equipment, Dale Hayes Academy of Golf, tennis, bowls, squash and snooker. Functions and conferences are also catered for. The Country club covers approximately 100 ha, and nine of the fairways are alongside the Hennops River whilst the river is crossed twelve times during a round of golf. A variety of mature trees and shrubs abound and much of the natural foliage is incorporated in the design of the holes.

The entrance to the estate is monitored by CCTV cameras and all visitors are required to sign in on entering the Estate.
