Compared to the most fully-formed suburbs in Johannesburg, Vorna Valley is a relatively young suburb in the Midrand area. It took shape as a fine suburb along with the increasing development of the Midrand area over the last decade or so.

Interesting facts about the history of Vorna Valley

The suburb of Vorna Valley gets its name from the Galaun family's home village of Varniai (Vornia) in Lithuania. The Galaun family, consisting of the parents Jacob and Michle-and their children-Joseph, Israel, Louis, Harry, Abe, Leah, Malka, and Tzira, all lived in Lithuania. The Galaun family sold cheese and milk in addition to their income from Jacob's butchery.

Harry Galaun emigrated to South Africa and established himself as a property developer, owning a bottle store and land called Halfway House. He ultimately established the township of Vorna Valley in the 1970s, and the main arterial road was named after him.
