Chase Valley is an integral part of Pietermaritzburg, the capital city of KwaZulu-Natal, with a rich historical background that provides fascinating insights into the origins of this remarkable town.

During the year 1838, the Boers, who hailed from the Cape Colony, founded the town. They bestowed the name Pietermaritzburg as a tribute to their fallen leaders, Piet Retief and Gerrit Maritz, in recognition of their victory over the Zulus at the renowned Battle of Blood River. However, the British assumed control of the region in 1843, taking charge of the area and establishing Fort Napier, a significant historical monument that proudly stands to this day.

Chase Valley residents looking to reach Pietermaritzburg Airport can do so in 25 minutes (17,3 km) via the N3 and King Shaka International Airport is a one-hour and 26-minute drive (110,3 km) via the N3 as well. Pietermaritzburg Central is 16 minutes away (7,4 km) via Chase Valley Road.
