A brief history of the area
During the late 19th century, Durban residents looking to get away from the heat of the coast started to move inland. Malvern was once four separate residential townships, Malvern, Escombe, Northdene and Moseley. In 1924, the four areas were combined to form the town of Malvern. In 1952, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne, Malvern received municipality status and changed its name to Queensburgh.

Malvern is a mere 30-minute drive (40,7 km) along the N2 to King Shaka International Airport. Residents wanting to head to the beach can do so via the N3 within 18 minutes (16,7 km) and Durban CBD is only 15,2 km away which is a 15-minute drive.
