Bryanston's story is an aristocratic one... Back in the 1840s, the suburb we now know as Bryanston formed part of Driefontein Farm. Later, a township was established on the farm and its neighbouring Rietfontein Farm. This township was chaired by Sir Abe Bailey, whose London home was in Bryanston Square - and this is how Bryanston got its name. The London theme is evident throughout Bryanston, with most streets named after the streets and squares of England's capital.
Few people know that the name "Sandton" was derived from a combination of the suburb names "Sandhurst" and "Bryanston."
