The Jukskei River runs through the Buccleuch suburb, with the Modderfontein River on the eastern boundary. The Buccleuch Residents Association is also active in the suburb, as they monitor the maintenance of roads and facilities within the area and create a clean, safe, and enjoyable community environment.

Interesting facts about the history of Buccleuch

Buccleuch stands on one of the old Witwatersrand farms, namely the Waterval farm, which was purchased in the late 1800s by a British immigrant, John Alexander Gibson. Mr. Gibson owned a coach transport business and used the farm as a rest area for his business's mules and horses. Upon his death in 1928, the farm was split between his seven heirs, one of whom named the area after a family friend - the Duke of Buccleuch. The late 1930s saw the area subdivided into smallholdings, which were further subdivided into smaller stands to create the existing suburb.
