Lyme Park suburb is home to St. Stithians College, a private institution with a Methodist ethos. It was established in 1953 on an approximately 100-hectare estate, originally part of the Driefontein farm. Since the Boys' College opened, many more schools have been established on what is known as one of the largest school campuses in South Africa. This has created an educational village with a co-ed Junior Preparatory School, allowing the girls and boys to then move on to their respective Prep Schools and Colleges.

Other educational options exist in the neighbouring suburbs, such as Bordeaux Primary, Bryanston Primary and High Schools and Randburg Hoerskool -an Afrikaans medium school. There is also Ferndale High, which focuses on academics as well as on more technical and practical education.

Lyme Park and the surrounding areas have several few shopping centers. The Pick n Pay Center on the corner of Republic Road and William Nicol Drive, and the larger Nicolway Shopping centre which is a shopping hub with over 80 stores to cater to the needs of Lyme Park residents-from grocery shops to banking facilities to health care to décor and more.

The smaller Coachman's Crossing in Peter Place and the Peter Place Shopping Centers on the edge of Lyme Park are both suitable daily shopping options, and Ferndale Village Shopping Center is just a few minutes away from Lyme Park.

Restaurants to visit in and near Lyme Park

Lyme Park residents get to pick from various dining options as the Nicolway Center houses Tasha's and Paul's Restaurants, the Col'cacchioo Pizzeria, and Turn 'n' Tender for meat lovers. There is also the 1920 restaurant at the Ferndale Village Shopping Center on Main Avenue, a taverna-style restaurant with Madeiran, Portuguese, and other Mediterranean foods, as the owner uses many of their family recipes. Other dining options include the Higher Ground Restaurant and One & All Club on the St. Stithians school campus, with lovely views of Johannesburg from the terraces.

Things to do in Lyme Park

1. The Bryanston Country Club: The club has different sporting facilities, with a popular 18-hole golf course, as well as bowling greens, tennis courts and squash courts. Apart from the clubhouse, there is the Phoenix restaurant with its wine-and-dine events and the more casual Terrace restaurant, which overlooks the golf course with a kids' club nearby.

2. Adventure Golf, Ferndale on Republic (formerly known as Brightwater Commons and the Randburg Waterfront): It offers family entertainment with a mini golf course with three different 9-hole courses with the Deck Pizzeria for light meals.

3. Old Parktonian Association Sports Club in Bordeaux: is another sports club near Lyme Park offering soccer, cricket, hockey and bowls facilities. It is also the gathering place for the Rand Athletic Club runners.

4. Delta Park in Blairgowrie: is popular with runners, cyclists, and walkers, often with their dogs. This large open green space is a nice getaway from the surrounding urban activity.

5. Field & Study Market in Field & Study Park, Louise Avenue, Parkmore: is an open-air market held on the second Saturday of every month. The market vendors offer clothing, jewelry, local arts and crafts, as well as coffee, baked goods and foods at their stalls.
