The best, in skill and heart, of the Boland competed in the recent Boland Inter-Regionals Squash Tournament. The tournament that took place on the 26th of November, at the Hermanus Sports Club, was a healthy mix of competitors from all over the region, with categories for the A-players as well as for social competition.
The Boland Inter-Regionals tournament is an annual event, taking place between the three regions which form Boland Squash - West-Boland, East-Boland and Witzenberg. In total there are 18 clubs that participate in this fast-paced game. These clubs form the regional teams, of which there is an A-section and a Festival section which involves socials. This year there were a total of 38 players sweating it out to strut their stuff. This was the first year for this event in this format, which organisers hope to grow in coming years.
The ultimate purpose of this tournament, beyond crowning victors and those who shall go on to nationals, is to expand Boland Squash in the number of participants, boosting sports participation which in turn grows a sense of community. The event creates an atmosphere of healthy competitiveness with a social backing - a great environment to ignite the spark in squash and expand the comradery which is so important for the continuation of the sport after Covid-19.
The tournament will help develop beginners' level and social players but also strengthen the top-quality players to reach new heights in nationals. The immaculate courts at the Hermanus Sports Club offer the perfect training ground for perfecting squash skills.
The squash courts encapsulate 4 courts with glass-backed walls, sprung floors and top-notch imported Czech Republic LED lighting. The club welcomes both members and visitors, with free access to members for games outside of Social Squash and League. Social Squash is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 16h45 till 19h00, at R15 per member and R45 for visitors. This is a fantastic opportunity for fast-paced fun while meeting new people.

This year's Boland Inter-Regionals Squash Tournament was a major success, and Seeff Hermanus has been proud to be a sponsor of such a significant event. Congrats go out to West-Boland who won the tournament. After some intense matches, the men enjoyed watching the rugby with an ice cold one and delicious eats at the Hermanus Sports Club restaurant, The Clubhouse.
