Find out all you need to know about Kayaking Jeffreys Bay

Kayaking Jeffreys Bay is situated within Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape. Kayaking is a relaxing, fun and easy-to-learn activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Some of the most spectacular lagoons in South Africa are located in and around Jeffreys Bay.

You can explore the protected waters of Kabeljouws Nature Reserve while kayaking at your own pace, which allows you to see a whole lot more than you would from the beaches. This attraction is based on the banks of the Kabeljous Lagoon in Jeffrey's Bay. Bordered on both sides by nature reserves and rivers, the Kabeljous and Seekoei estuaries are protected from the open ocean, which makes it popular for kitesurfing and kayaking.

What can you expect on your kayaking adventure?

Kayaking Jeffreys Bay offers its visitors friendly instructors who will show you the basics of kayaking. Starting off with a quick safety briefing and kit breakdown, beginners will learn about the strokes and paddle techniques they'll need to navigate the lagoon. All of the equipment such as the kayaks, paddles and life jackets are provided for you. Each tour is two hours long and set at a leisurely pace, with the focus being on wildlife watching.

The area in which you will be kayaking offers magnificent views of the nature reserve which is home to an abundance of wildlife. Wildlife you can expect to see on your trip includes grysbok, bushbuck, mongoose, caracal, duiker, bush pig and approximately 100 bird species. You may also get the opportunity to see the iconic pink flamingo. Should you come across this beautiful colony, don't hesitate to take loads of photos! During the trip, your guide will tell you more about the biodiversity of the Eastern Cape and why the lagoon is important to the area's natural diversity. As the lagoon is protected from the ocean and wind, it makes for one of the calmest flat water spots in the cape.
