Life in Mowbray

Mowbray has beautiful Victorian terraced homes and has recently been transformed into a chic neighbourhood with greening projects, such as the planting of trees, significantly improving the suburb.

The area is populated by a diverse community, a considerable number being students from the nearby University of Cape Town.


Mowbray’s Durban Road has become a new food lover’s paradise with trendy restaurants and coffee shops such as Fat Cactus and Chai Yo.


Where is Mowbray located?


Mowbray lies on the slopes of Devil’s Peak at a junction of several major Cape Town highways. The suburb is close to the University of Cape Town, Groote Schuur Hospital as well as the city’s CBD.


Things to see and do in Woodstock


Mowbray is the perfect base for nature lovers with three popular hiking trails snaking up Devil’s Peak, with incredible 360 views of the city offered at the summit.


Golfing enthusiasts can try their hand at the 18-hole Mowbray Golf Course, recognized as one of the best courses in South Africa. The course has hosted the South African Open several times.


Mostert’s Mill, completed in 1796 it is the only complete windmill in South Africa and is still in working order. It is open to the public once a month.


If you’re looking for a great bite to eat and a fantastic night out, Fat Cactus on Durban Road is always buzzing with activity and offers some of the very best Mexican food in town.
