History of the Mellasat Vineyards

The Richardson family's journey began in 1996 when they established Mellasat Vineyards on the original farm Dekkersvlei. This historic location, with its roots dating back to the late 17th century, adds depth and character to the winery. Over time, the family embarked on a mission to replace some of the existing Chenin Blanc vines with noble cultivars such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, and the unique South African grape variety, Pinotage.

Mellasat Vineyards' passion for innovation led to the creation of their famous White Pinotage-a true testament to their commitment to pushing boundaries and crafting exceptional wines. This barrel-fermented white wine, which saw its maiden vintage in 2007, symbolises the winery's dedication to producing distinctive and memorable creations.
