Spicy satisfaction at MoKsh

MoKsh means freedom or liberation, but most importantly it also means to attain the highest level of satisfaction.

Spice satisfaction is definitely on the menu.

We often favour this restaurant when it comes to good, healthy vegetarian dishes when we have to entertain friends who are not meat-friendly. There is a wide selection to choose from and the dishes are filling and fragrant.

They have about fourteen main vegetarian dishes on the menu. For starters I can recommend the samoosas. The Chana Masala - chickpeas in a thick tomato and onion sauce - is excellent as a main meal.

On the meaty side I have quite a few favourites. All the curries are wonderful and you can choose the gradient of hotness that you can handle. The Butter Chicken and Chicken Korma are both R179 and you order a naan or rice separately. I always find the portions too small, but maybe it is just me. If you want to fill up, however, please...please...please order their Butter Naan. It is baked in a clay oven, smothered in butter and at R25 a good option.

If butter is not your thing MoKsh have a wide range of naans such as plain, garlic, Rogni (topped with sesame seeds), Peshawari Naan (cashew nuts, sesame seeds and coconut), and a cheese/garlic naan. If you are a bread lover you could even make a meal of it with their stuffed breads - there are two: the one is stuffed with potatoes (R55) and the other with chicken mince (R69).

Other favourite dishes that I have tried are the prawn curry (again, a larger portion would have been preferred), Tandoori Chicken (R115) and Chicken Tika (R89). The lamb dishes start at R205 but the lamb is soft and steeped in deliciousness.

When it comes to atmosphere, the restaurant in Welgelen is not perfect. It is situated in a mall, you have to climb a few steps to get there, and the interior - while neat - could really do with dimmed lights to create a more intimate atmosphere. As it is, I always feel a bit cold and not inclined to stay longer to try out their desserts. However, the service is always good and last time we were served by the most serious waiter in the world!

Perfect for a midweek dinner or family dinner.
