The Highland Gathering in Amanzimtoti has a unique and community-focused origin, which explains its deep connection to the town:

  • Humble Beginnings (1964): The event started as a simple fundraiser in 1964, organized by Betty and Clifford Leesam, with the sole purpose of raising money for a much-needed swimming pool for Umbogintwini Primary School.
  • The Amanzimtoti Tradition: This initial event, bringing together the sound of bagpipes and the energy of Highland games, was so successful it became an annual tradition and grew into one of South Africa's most cherished cultural events. Over the years, the event moved from the primary school to Kingsway High School before the reins were entrusted to the Amanzimtoti Lions Club, which hosts it today
  • Largest in the Southern Hemisphere: The Gathering is now one of the biggest Scottish festivals and the largest assembly of pipe bands in the Southern Hemisphere.
  • Community Core: Despite its growth, the event remains centered in Amanzimtoti, taking place at Hutchison Park. It acts as the Lions Club's biggest fundraiser of the year, with every ticket, stall booking, and sponsorship directly supporting critical outreach projects, youth development, and charity initiatives throughout the Amanzimtoti community. It also provides a major economic boost to local businesses and tourism, bringing thousands of visitors to Toti each year.

The Seeff Toti Team is excited to see you & your pets for a fun filled day, See you on the 2nd of May!
