Leisure Isle, Knysna

The tidal Knysna estuary surrounds Leisure Isle on all four sides, connecting to the Knysna mainland by a causeway. Leisure Isle was once a grassy sandbank, and over time, with the sea level falling and the sand-banks rising in height, Leisure Isle was formed. It was previously known as the Steenbok Island, as these small mammals were regularly sighted along with prolific birdlife. The island is 5 km across at its widest point. Leisure Isle has over 450 homes, of which more than 50% are occupied by residents, and the others are available for holidaymakers. It is a popular destination for locals and tourists. The island has the stunning Bollard Bay Beach, which is the perfect spot to enjoy the majestic views of the Knysna Heads....
